VIVIAN CHESTERLEY
Vivian Chesterley is a contemporary American landscape painter residing in the Pacific Northwest. Her deep regard for the natural world, both real and imagined, shines through in her oil paintings. “I grew up watching the sun’s light dance over the waters of Puget Sound, seeing incredible sunsets, and checking every morning to see whether the mountains were out! I am continually astonished at the drama of landscape in all its forms.”
Vivian began her art career in weaving and textiles after receiving her M.F.A. in Fine Arts from California College of Design, and exhibited throughout the United States. But gradually, she began to tire of the long procedures necessary to set up a textile project and then execute it, and began looking for other methods to express her artistic interests. She then spent a number of years studying oil painting under Sylvia Carlson, and has taken workshops from noted landscape painters Tim Deibler, Lois Griffel, and Michael Story.
Vivian has had several solo exhibits of her paintings and her work has been selected for a number of juried shows. She is currently represented by Front Street Galley in Poulsbo, WA, and Northwind Arts Gallery in Port Townsend, WA.
Vivian’s style is both dynamic and sensitive in the use of color and the handling of paint, as she explores atmosphere through light and color, in various degrees of abstraction. See more of her work at her website: vchesterley.artspan.com.
