The "divine proportion," or golden mean, was closely studied by the Greek sculptor Phidias. Hence, it was give the name "Phi." This is the artist's fourth illustration of the magical proportion, and one of his personal favorites. He said during its conception he was revealed a relationship between Phi, 1:1.681 and Pi, 3.141.
