Heather Im born and raised in South Korea until she moved to the U.S. for college in 2005, Heather is trained in cultural anthropology with focus on Native American philosophy and visual arts. Her two decades of learning about and working with Native Americans as an applied anthropological ethnographer, together with her own upbringing as an Indigenous Korean, gradually and completely shattered her worldview that had been heavily Eurocentric and natural sciencedriven and reconfigured it to place Indigenous values at its core. In 2023, she started painting to creatively record and express her journey to retrace her Indigeneity and to reconnect with it. While her academic training in anthropology and Native American studies shaped her values and ideas, she believes that her training in fashion design has immense influence on the angular composition and vibrant color choices of her work.
