Artist: Shen Chen (b. 1955)
Shen Chen (b. 1955, China) is an abstract artist based in New York since the early 1990s. With a cross-cultural background, Chen’s artistic style encompasses both traditional Chinese brushworks and contemporary techniques. Chen studies the meditative and deliberative brushwork associated with traditional Chinese ink brush painting, and creates fully abstract paintings. Chen is constantly exploring the art of brushstroke, color, and tonality. His large-scale paintings reflect a meticulous layering of color that eventually achieves the resonant tonal hues in all work of art.
Chen’s work has been exhibited in art museums including the National Art Museum of China, Roma Academy of Fine Arts, and Queens Museum of Art. His work is included in public and private collections such as ME Collection Berlin (Germany), Aszo Nobel Art Foundation (Netherland), Duke Energy Corporation (USA), Johnson & Johnson Foundation (USA), and Stibbe Collection, (Netherlands)。
