Brooklyn based artist Justin Natividad attended Savannah College of Art & design where he studied painting. Exploring existential themes and common tropes in gay voyeuristic culture, Justin recontextualizes these themes back into a fine art context while focusing on memory and the male on male gaze. Through tight cropping and exaggerated scales Justin is able to draw the observer into a more intimate viewing experience. Shifting the focus through shadow, color and reflective light Justin is able to create a painting that reads like a memory, sentimental, soft, melancholic and distant. While Justin primary works with oils, he switches between wood and cotton canvases, using each to complement the scale and subject matter.
