Guido Garaycochea (b. 1961, Peru) is a New York-based visual artist with multiple identities (curator, art professor, and artist). As artist, Garaycochea questions concepts related to sex, gendered representation, nudity, aspects of gender-nonconformity, and the societal impositions on masculinity and manhood. His work encompasses a variety of medium, from mixed media on canvas and wooden panels, work on paper, installation, to videos and 3D work. Garaycochea’s work deconstructs preconceived categorizations of gender, pushing viewers to expand their minds and consider new ones. In 2009, Garaycochea cofounded the Expressiones Cultural Center in New London, CT, a non-profit organization that aims to promote understandings between the Anglo and Hispanic communities.
