Cydney Williams is currently a studio resident at Mana Contemporary in Jersey City, NJ. Born in Livingston, NJ in 1994, she graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Art Education from the University of Vermont in 2016. Shortly after, she was trained by and continues to be mentored by artist, Dorothea Rockburne, during and after her time as Studio Manager of Rockburne Studios in New York, NY. Her work has been exhibited at Pinta Art Fair, Miami, FL (2019); Mana Contemporary, Jersey City, NJ (2019); University of Vermont, Burlington, VT (2014, 2015, 2016, 2018); and has upcoming exhibitions in New York, NY and Jersey City, NJ.
Driven by curiosity, Cydney has found herself emerged and commenting on the expanding yet interconnected world around her. This expansion includes the desensitized reality that our humanity is often defaulted to in order to survive today’s culture of over-saturation and the race to unravel the madness derived from the fear of the unknown. Cydney strives to combat this fear and leave a space charged with joy; to enter into the possibility of the unknown. Through paintings and installations, Cydney depicts resilience through an experience as a tangible depiction of an expressed lesson from her journey, attempting to arm the viewer with the energy of the process that always ends with the gratitude of participation regardless of the situation, which in return Cydney hopes connects the viewer back to their own personal reflective journey for the gratitude of being a living soul of love, not necessarily a story bound by narrative.
