  • Artist: Chen Jia

Chen Jia is a multifaceted artist whose work spans calligraphic murals, paintings, sculptures, existentialist poetry, and sentimental music. Her creations embody profound philosophical inquiry, boundless imagination, and a free-spirited essence. Each piece reflects her decades-long journey in the United States, with the vibrant energy and transformative experiences of New York City serving as a recurring backdrop.

At the heart of her painting style lies the groundbreaking Unconstrained Freehand Cursive Script, a calligraphic innovation rooted in the cosmological ideas of Lao Tzu, emphasizing reverence for nature. This style also incorporates refined elements from diverse artistic and literary traditions. In 1990, challenging China's centuries-old calligraphic conventions, Chen pioneered this unprecedented script. Her theoretical manifesto, "Unconstrained Freehand Cursive Script: A Revolution in Chinese Calligraphic Art," was published in both Chinese and English in 1994-1995, appearing in notable publications such as The International Journal of Politics, Culture, and Society (Volume 8, No. 3, 1995).
