Born in 1969, artist Alex Guofeng Cao explores black and white photography through incorporating digital mosaics to reconstruct iconic photographs of well-known figures throughout history. Subjects of his work include celebrities, historical figures, and even characters from early art masterpiece. Through compositions of pixel-size mosaics of other preexisting images, Cao’s recreations offer a novel yet familiar perception of the imagery.
Cao’s work has been featured at major museums across the United States, including the Museum of Boca Raton (Florida), American Museum of Asmat Art (Minnesota), Flint Institute of Arts (Michigan), Portland Art Museum (Oregon), and the Huckster Museum (New York).
