Micro-chased bead from a single piece of seamless tubing, suspended from a loop-loop chain
After becoming slightly obsessed with a chased gold cylinder from ancient Nubia that is in the collection of Museum of Fine Arts Boston, I began experimenting with what I call micro-chasing. I created this chased bead from seamless, sterling tubing. By slightly altering the order of Eastern repoussé steps that I employ to refine my repoussé pieces from the front, I could wildly undercut this vine work and pop out the relief, working exclusively from the outside.
I achieved the unedited colors in the recessed area by patinating with liver of sulfur.
I teach my revolutionary micro-chasing technique for tubing such as this in my Extended Eastern Repoussé Course online.
