Photography is a hobby for native Kansan Lisa Perez-Miller, who enjoys shooting a variety of subjects, including landscapes, architecture, animals, sunflowers and people. A sunflower lover, Lisa grows all the sunflowers she photographs. Having taken thousands of photos, she continues to develop her skills as a photographer, experimenting with composition, special effects and unique subjects. Lisa loves the creative challenge which photography offers both behind the camera and with editing and design.
Having a special love for Kansas and for sunflowers and their bright yellow color, Lisa believes sunflowers represent strength, resilience, and independence. As the poem goes, “She is a sunflower, strong and bold and true to herself. She is sunshine mixed with a little hurricane.” Each summer Lisa grows a variety of sunflowers, some planted intentionally, and others planted randomly by birds or squirrels. Because of this, her “sunflower patch” is different each year and somewhat abstract. She looks forward to photographing her sunflowers, always seeking that one special image that showcases the vibrant color that glows bright and translucent in a sunbeam or contrasts vividly with the bright blue Kansas sky. Sunflowers mean something different to everyone and Lisa hopes they are meaningful to you in some way that brings a smile and celebration of living your best life.
