Emergence in Blue explores the tension between concealment and revelation through layered mixed-media processes. The work evolved through repeated cycles of building, obscuring, and re-exposing surfaces using acrylic, embedded mesh, and textured grounds. I intentionally disrupted the paint film—allowing underlying structures to fracture, breathe, and reassert themselves—so the surface records both action and erosion.
Color operates structurally rather than decoratively: blues establish depth and atmosphere, while warmer passages emerge through abrasion and transparency, creating visual thresholds between what is buried and what resurfaces. The mesh functions as both a physical and visual intermediary, altering how light moves across the surface and creating shifting perceptions of space.
Experimentation in this work lies in surrendering control to process—allowing material interactions, drying times, pressure, and removal to guide the final composition. The resulting surface holds evidence of time, resistance, and transformation, inviting sustained looking as light reveals and conceals different passages depending on distance and angle.
