Kara Walker illustrates the savagery of slavery in American. Combining a no-holds-barred approach with the elegant lines of silhouettes, she retells the stories in the 1866 Harper's Pictorial History of the Civil War with the accuracies of all the atrocities enacted upon the enslaved set against the pastoral landscape of the South.
