Andy Warhol (American, 1928-1987) x
American artist. Came from Eastern European immigrant family but ended up as a bohemian member of High Society in New York. Known for screenprinted images of Marilyn Monroe, soup cans, and sensational newspaper stories. Before ascent into fine art, worked on commercial illustrations that were often comic, decorative and whimsical, a radical difference against his cold and impersonal Pop Art pieces. Broke down both the worlds of high and low art and their art forms and pioneered experimental films. His legacy as an artist, commercial, and business stems from his charisma and ability to manipulate popular tastes.
