Gift of Lakeside Studio

Richard Hunt is an American sculptor who is famous for his contemporary and abstract, metal sulptural works. He started creating his artworks using clay in his bedroom. In the following years, he was inspired by works of Julio González and taught himself metal-welding technique. He spent the next ten years experimenting with welded and cast steel, aluminum, copper, and bronze to create organic shapes. He was awared many prizes such as Logan, Palmer, and Campana, and served as a visiting professor in many universities. He has had numerous one-man and group exhibitions; the most famous one being his solo retrospective exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1971.
