Perhaps informed by his background as a cartoonist for major news publications, David Shrigley creates works that are often political in nature. This piece was produced as part of a series of Lockdown Drawings that he began during the 2020 shelter-in-place orders. Rendered in Shrigley’s approachable style, the work comprises a quadrant of cartoon cells, each featuring a figure treading water, arms thrashing about. With a disarming sense of humor, Shrigley addresses inadequate government responses to the pandemic in the accompanying text: NO RUSH TO SAVE ME, JUST TAKE YOUR TIME.
