Gift of Sarah B. McKay

Tamasauskas was born in Terschenreuth, Germany in a displaced persons camp in 1947, following his parents' flight from Lithuania after the Russian Communist occupation. Known for experimenting outside the conventions of printmaking, he integrates found objects such as sheets of metal, animal pelts, clumps of horsehair, and carved wood into his printing process. His unique process creates rich textural surfaces filled with patterns. He describes consistent work with paper as capitalizing on the "intimacy with paper which allows an artist to communicate a brief passage or a fleeting idea which is too fragile to convey with a big canvas or masonite or any other structural material."
