Gift of the Artist
"Camphor Leaves" is the remnant of an installation and performance Caniago performed at Davidson College in February 2017 as part of the Baik Art Residency, utilizing camphor leaves the artist collected in Taiwan. Although Caniago’s Indonesian village is named for the camphor tree, there are none left in the area. He first saw the tree in Taiwan while traveling, and collected the leaves to create the initial installation which included 280 leaves and an accompanying drawing of each leaf.
