Artist: Varujan Boghosian (American, 1926-2020)
Varujan Boghosian was an American artist best known for his unorthodox sculptures and assemblages. Born in 1926, Boghosian became known for recontextualizing everyday objects through poetic and often surreal juxtapositions. His work drew inspiration from literature, classical mythology, history, music, and art, using symbolic materials to evoke narrative, memory, and metaphor. Boghosian was deeply influenced by Dada and Surrealism, and his experimental approach set him apart in the American art scene. From 1968 to 1995, he served as a professor of art at Dartmouth College, where he mentored generations of artists. Throughout his career, Boghosian exhibited widely and earned recognition for his unique contribution to contemporary sculpture. He continued creating art until his death in 2020.
