Photojournalist, filmmaker, human rights advocate, artist, and leading thinker in media innovation. Graduated from Oxford in 1992 with a degree in Classics and English. Second degree from Cardiff University in 1997 in photojournalism. Hetherington initially worked for the UK press and soon branched into international coverage. He worked and lived in Africa where he began to document the conflict itself, which took him around the world, including a year-long study of American fighting forces in Afghanistan from 2007 to 2008. Hetherington was killed in a mortar attack in Libya in April 2011 with colleague Chris Hondros.
