Artist: Theodoros Stamos (Greek-American, 1922-1997)
Greek-Americanpainter best known for large, abstract paintings. Was part of the early Abstract Expressionist group alongside Jackson Pollock, Ad Reinhardt, and Clyfford Still among others. Taught at the Black Mountain College until 1954 and the Art Students League of New York until 1975. Was involved in the supposed Rothko Case of 1970, but remained popular in the art community nevertheless. Works reside in institutions including the Art Institute of Chicago and others. Was born in New York, NY but passed away in Greece.
