  • Artist: Seymour Lipton (American, 1903-1986)

American sculptor. Employed flexibility of sheet metal to portray the inner turmoil of the human psyche. Heavily influenced by fragmented form of Cubism, psychological undertone of Surrealism, and theme of human suffering of German Expressionism. Metal abstract sculptures were ripped apart to expose the layers of serrated metal as representations of man’s struggle for survival in a modern world.
