  • Artist: Sam Francis (American, 1923-1994)

Californian abstract expressionist and surrealist. Francis earned his BA and MA in medical studies at UC Berkeley, but later diverged his focus from the hard sciences to painting. A visit to Japan influenced his use of colors, and his move to Paris encouraged him to create larger-scaled paintings. His works have been showcased in diverse venues such as Galerie Nina Dausset in Paris, The Pasadena Art Museum, The Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Centre National d'Art Contemporain, and Fondation Rothschild in Paris.
