Artist: Michael Kidner (British, 1917-2009)
British painter. Kidner studied History and Anthropology at the University of Cambridge, Landscape Architecture at Ohio State University, and Art and Design at Goldsmiths University. He started painting as a hobby until he met André Lhote, who introduced him to cubism and encouraged him to start painting full-time in Paris. After his return to England, he began painting abstract landscapes based on St. Ives School. He was later influenced by Abstract Expressionism, Mark Rothko's color field paintings, and Bauhaus's colors, which inspired him to use color in a radical, objective way. He was named Senior Royal Academician (2004) and received the Flowers East Award (2004). His work has been featured internationally in Britain, Portugal, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Vienna, Tokyo, Russia, and America.
