American political cartoonist. Dater spent most of his life as a pilot, both for the Air Force and commercial airlines. He took painting, cartooning, and drawing lessons on the side and began freelancing as a political cartoonist and illustrator. He was influenced by Mort Gerberg and Arthur Getz.
