Artist: Max Bill (Swiss, 1908-1994)
Born in 1908, Swiss architect, artist and designer Max Bill studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Zürich from 1924–1927, and in the most famous Bauhaus in Dessau, under Josef Albers, Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee. He later co-founded the Ulm School of Arts and Crafts, where he was the head of the architecture and product design departments during the 1950s. DUring this period, he also designed the school building of the Bauhaus. He also served on the Swiss Parliament from 1967 to 1971. Bill founded the Concrete Art movement and is perhaps best known for his interpretations of Constructivism through structured paintings and spherical sculptures, bringing studied geometry and mathematics into his art practice. Bill passed away in Berlin on December 9, 1994, at the age of 85. His work would later be exhibited all around the world, including in museums in New York, Hong Kong, Basel and more.
