Maren Hassinger (b. 1947, Los Angeles, CA) is an African-American artist and educator whose career spans four decades. Hassinger uses sculpture, film, dance, performance art, and public art to explore the relationship between the natural world and industrial materials. Hassinger was the Emeritus Director of the Rinehart School of Sculpture at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, which she led for 20 years. She received an MFA from University of California, Los Angeles in 1973 and a BA from Bennington College in. 1969. She lives and Works in New York, NY.
