  • Artist: Kay WalkingStick (American, b. 1935)

Native American painter, Cherokee Nation. WalkingStick is one of the best known Native American artists. During the 1960s, she experimented with color and form, and during the 1970s, her works dealt with abstraction and her heritage. During the 1980s, she began using diptych format, juxtaposing realism with abstraction views of the landscape. Recently, she has begun to merge her interests with landscape and figure.
