  • Artist: Jean Dewasne (French, 1921-1999)

Jean Dewasne was born in Lille, France. He started his artistic career studying classical music before enrolling at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he first studied architecture for two years before moving to painting. He began exhibiting his work in 1941 and made his first abstract artwork in 1943. Considered one of the masters of constructive abstraction, he strove to erase all traces of his hand in his artworks. In his compositions, whether two or three dimensional, each shape and line are a vibrating, hard-edge with plastic-like surfaces forming visual rhythms.
