Artist: Hurvin Anderson (British, b. 1965)
Hurvin Anderson was born in Birmingham, England, raised in the Caribbean, and received his MA in painting from London’s Royal College of Art. In his works, he explores his Jamaican heritage and the complexity of growing up in England while wanting to reconnect with his Jamaican roots. His paintings, drawings, and prints are representational, but he typically disrupts their legibility with gestural marks or abstract patterns. Anderson's works have been shown with Thomas Dane Gallery in London and Michael Werner Gallery in New York. His works are also found in many collections including The Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Tate Gallery in London.
