Artist: Henry Moore (English, 1898-1986)
British sculptor. Moore attended the Leeds School of Art and the Royal College of Art. He enlisted in the British Army during WWI and was sent to France. He married Irena Radetzky in 1929. His works reflect influence from the Cubist sculptors, the Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi, and most importantly, ancient Mexican stone carvings. His bronze and stone figures are considered the 20th century reflection of humanism. He created sculptures for the headquarters of UNESCO, Lincoln Center (NY), and the University of Chicago, among many other commissions.
