French landscape painter and member of the Barbizon School of artists, whose work was influenced by friend and fellow painter, Camille Corot. His paintings are characterized by a wispy and descriptive quality, mainly depicting natural and country landscapes. His work is held in the collections of prominent institutions, such as Musée d’Orsay in Paris, the National Gallery in London, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
