Artist: Heinrich Aldegrever (German, 1502-1561)
German painter and printmaker. Aldegrever is a trained goldsmith and ornamental ironworker. He specialized in the optical effects of light and shadow. He is known for the tiny size of his prints as well as the mythological and Biblical subject choices in his engravings. Aldegrever was part of the German Renaissance movement artist group known as “Little Masters”. Aldegrever produced around 300 engravings in small scales in a range of 30 years.
