Artist: Gordon Mortensen (American, b. 1938)
American woodcutter, printmaker, and painter. Mortensen received his BFA with honors from the Minneapolis School of Art (1964) and then his graduate degree at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (1972). He abandoned his work as a portrait painter to do reduction woodcutting. His works have evolved into large, colorful works, and he is one of the few practicing artists to employ his specific printmaking methods in the US.
