  • Artist: Giovanni Battista Piranesi (Italian, 1720-1778)

Italian draftsman, printmaker, architect, and art theorist. Giovanni settled in Rome to study printmaking (1745) where he developed original etching technique of copperplate. He has created about 2,000 plates during his career, and is best known for accurate depiction, skill in techniques and expression of grandeur.
