  • Artist: George Raymond Kerciu (American, b. 1933)

American painter, printmaker and stained-glass artist. Former assistant professor of art at the University of Mississippi during the 1962 insurrection against the university's attempt at desegregation. Famous for series of five paintings that depict the Confederate flag surrounded by segregationist slogans in response to the riots he witnessed. Arrested in the spring of 1963 for allegedly desecrating the Confederate flag, which led to increased media attention on him and his works.
