  • Artist: George Hurrell (American, 1904-1992)

George Hurrell is famous for his Hollywood Glamour photography during 1930s to 1940s. He studied painting in Chicago Art Institute and started to be acquainted with photography to document his paintings in college. Later, he became the apprentice of Edgar Alwyn Payne, a landscape painter. He gradually became famous and invited to to take headshots for Hollywood film stars after he took seductive photos for Norma Shearer. His use of lighting and compositions make his works glamorous and beautiful. He served in World War II, and continued to work as a photographer afterwards.
