Artist: Frederico Castellón (American, 1914-1971)
Castellon grew up in Brooklyn but moved back to his native country Spain to study painting. He developed his surrealist style during his time in Spain. Castellon was awarded two Guggenheim Fellowships and had his first solo exhibition in New York in the early 1930s with the help of teacher and mentor, Diego Rivera. Castellon is considered one of America’s first surrealist painters.
