  • Artist: Edward Moulthrop (American, 1916-2003)

American architect and wood worker. Moulthrop received his degree in architecture from Princeton University. He then taught architecture at the Georgia Institute of Technology and later became the chief designer for Robert & Company. In his woodturning career, he developed many new methods and technologies. He developed a friendship with fellow wood worker, President Jimmy Carter, which provided an international outlet for his works. He is now recognized as the father of modern wood turning and credited for transforming it from a craft into an art form.
