American painter. Houchens recieved his BFA from Richmond Professional Institute and his MFA from Ohio State University. Characterized his paintings as "an expression of life itself" and his personal resolve was to return to the nature and the human spirit through his art. He is the founder of the Davidson College Art Department and his work is included in The Johnson Collection.
