Artist: Don Stone (American, 1929-2015)
Studied at the Vesper George School of Art but was drafted into the Navy after graduation. While serving in the Navy, Stone painted portraits of the ship’s officers. Upon completion of his service, returned to teach at Vesper George and the New England School of Art and worked as a commercial artist and cartoonist for the Boston Post and the Lowell Sun. Moved to Monhegan Island, ME after an invitation to visit by fellow artist Paul Strisik. Spent 40 years in Monhegan and ran painting workshops there. Was elected to the National Academy of Design, the American Watercolor Society as a Dolphin Fellow, the American Society of Marine Artists, and several other societies. Was also part of the Guild of Boston Artists, Allied Artists of America and Rockport Art Association among many others. Exhibited at numerous institutions such as the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Portland Museum of Art.
