Artist: Claus Hoie (Norwegian, 1911-2007)
Norwegian-American artist. Emigrated to the United States at the age of 13, settling in Brooklyn, NY, and received a formal art education from the Pratt Institute, the Art Students League of New York, and d’Ecole des Beaux-Arts after World War II. Worked primarily within watercolors and graphics and found inspiration from sailing culture and the whaling industry. Exhibited domestically and internationally and received multiple awards from the American Watercolor Society.
