  • Artist: Carmen Louis Cicero (American, b. 1926)

American artist. Cicero studied at Hunter College alongside Robert Motherwell and Hans Hofmann. His early drawings and works were based on his memories of places, but after losing all his works in a fire, Cicero moved to New York City to start anew. Here, he evolved a unique style characterized by figural distortion and cartoonlike scenes. Originally, Cicero's work was surrealist in style, however, over time his work aligned with Chicago Imagism of the 1970s and Neo-Expressionism.
