American painter. Silverman redefined realism through a traditional working method and medium. He has been hosting art classes in his own Manhattan studio since 1971 and has also been teaching at the Art Students League of New York and the School of Visual Arts. Silverman personally experienced the New York art scene throughout Abstract Expressionism, Pop Art, Photo Realism, to Post-Modernism, while he managed to forge his own path separate from his contemporaries. He seeks to paint the humanness of the people in his portraits.
