Artist: Bruce Nauman (American, b. 1941)
American multimedia artist. Utilizes wide range of media including sculpture, photography, neon, video, drawing, printmaking, and performance. Combines different media and different processes into his practice. Art as activity rather than product is main source of inspiration. Works reflect interest in language, often manifested through visual puns such as the photograph “Bound to Fail” where the artist’s arms are tied behind his back. Language as an inherently flawed communication device, and the artist’s role as communicator and manipulator of visual symbols inspired many of his works.
