Artist: Bert Carpenter (American, 1920-2003)
Bert Carpenter (1920-2003) attended Stanford University, Chouinard Art Institute and Columbia University. He taught at Columbia University in the humanities program and helped found the Art Barn School of Art and the Honolulu Artist’s League. Carpenter served as Chairman of the Art Department at the University of Hawaii (Manoa) before becoming the head of the Art Departnment at UNCG. In 1989, he retired as a professor emeritus of art. Carpetner has also served as director of UNCG’s Weatherspoon Art Gallery.
