Artist: Bernard Pfriem (American, 1916-1996)
Amercican illustrator. Born in Cleveland, Ohio but also lived in Mexico from 1940-42. He edited the Spanish-English magazine, “Mexico Habla.” Pfriem also assisted Jose Clemente Orozco with frescoes in Jiquilpan, Mexico and Julio Castellanos with murals in Mexico City. Served as the arts director of the Grey Falcon Press. He was the founder and director of the Lacoste School of the Arts in France. First solo exhibition was at the Hugo Gallery in New York in 1951 and has also exhibited work at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Smithsonian Institute and many others. Pfriem was best known for large-scale, well-rendered drawings of the human figure.
