Inspired by Gustav Klimt's style of portraits I combined my fibre hare with a bright and vibrant golden background. Klimt portraits use a pallid grey skin tone against a golden warm background and I find that contrast really interesting.
Here the background is full of shimmery and sparkly acrylic fibres to creat a deep, warm toned background. The hare is made using natural undyed fibres such as wool, camel, rabbit, llama and flax. There all give a mat finish with no silky shimmer. This brings out the tones and textures in the fur. The foreground uses silk mawata and yarn to give a glossy contrast.
The piece is approximately 60cm and is the largest fibre hare I've made so far. It's in a beautiful golden frame measuring 79 x 69 cm.
It started with piles of golden yellow fluffy sparkles...
