Part of Alexa Hoyer's project, Target.
In ‘Targets’, Alexa Hoyer documents homemade gun targets at unregulated shooting ranges in Nevada. Diverse in material, construction and inspiration, these targets punctuate the desert landscape with traces of artifact and story; discarded consumer objects, cutouts of politicians, wedding albums, severed mannequin parts, publicity posters, assemblages of human form, etc.
Item description: A color photograph focused on a pale cylinder which tapers in towards the bottom surrounded by shards of brown, green and colorless glass. The cylinder is composed of compressed pages of paper, resulting in a riveted surface where clippings in black and blue can be made out. The blurry background features a sweeping desert landscape, mountaintops peek out in the distance from the left.
