Stephanie H. Shih renders outdated consumer goods as painted ceramic sculptures that explore the way cultural identities transform as they migrate with a diaspora. In replicating everyday objects, she reflects on the traces of colonization, emigration, assimilation, and cultural interchange within the lives of Asian immigrants and their children. She has exhibited her artworks in museums and galleries across the United States.
Community work is central to her practice. Since 2017, she has raised over half a million dollars in direct aid for victims of state violence. Shih is currently based in Brooklyn, New York.
